finding function in nature

I’ve always loved making art and taking art classes since elementary school. In high school I took 6 art classes. I’ve always enjoyed drawing and painting and took studio art 1, 2 and 3. Junior year I took wheel thrown ceramics and Ms. McCauley and Ms. Hall convinced me to take AP art because they saw potential in me.

I decided to focus on ceramics as my medium for AP art. I’ve taken both studio and ceramic art at Methacton but I enjoy ceramics the most. It came to me much more naturally than painting or drawing ever did. AP art has given me the opportunity to make unique pieces with less restrictions and guidelines than other classes I’ve taken in the past. I’ve had the freedom to experiment with my art and try new things. I think I’ve grown a lot as an artist this past year. Being in a class with so many other artists has helped us all to inspire each other and push each other to make the best artwork that we can.

I’ve made some of my closest friends in art classes and been able to experience many amazing opportunities because of the art program. The ceramics room was always open to me any time I had a study hall or free time throughout the day. I really enjoyed feeling like I had a place and a group of people to always be around in school. I want to thank Mr. Koons and Ms. Hall for being amazing teachers and encouraging me to stay involved in the art program. Ms. McCauley for believing in me, always letting me hang out in her room, and teaching me everything I know about ceramics. I want to thank Arianna and Jack for always making art class exciting, even at 7:30am. I also want to thank my parents for always supporting me with everything I do. I hope to take everything I’ve learned from this experience with me and for art to always be a part of my life.
